Curling (Female) - Technical Package

Technical Packages for the NLGames are developed by the Provincial Sport Organization governing each respective sport. Questions should be directed to the Technical Chairperson as noted in Section 1 below, or to the SportNL Games Coordinator Patti Thorne by email pthorne@sportnl.ca or phone 709-576-4629.

3. ELIGIBILITY
Age and residence restrictions. Open to NLCA members only.

4. AGE CLASSIFICATION
Must be between the age of 11-18 years during the week designated for the Games.

5. PARTICIPANTS PER REGION

Female Team
4 female athletes + one female coach

Male Team
4 male athletes + one male coach

6. STAFF SELECTION
All coaches must be at NCCP Level 1/Club Coach in Curling and must be at least 21 years of age as of March 10, 2018.

9. REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Each regional team must be registered with the Host by February 8, 2018 through an online registration system that will be provided by the Host.

10. GAMES-TIME MEETINGS
One coach or staff representative from each region and each sport is required to attend the following meetings in the Host region at the commencement of the NLGames:

Coach / Manager General Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by SportNL and including brief presentations from the Host Committee – will cover logistical information on transportation, accommodations, food services, entertainment, venues, etc.

Sport Technical Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by the Technical Chair of your sport – will cover sport-specific technical information for your competition.

11. SANCTION
This competition is sanctioned by the Newfoundland & Labrador Curling Association. The Curling Canada rules will govern this competition.

12. SCHEDULE
Curling is a FIRST HALF Sport in the 2018 NLGames from March 10-13.

Final schedules will be posted on www.nlgames.ca/schedule in February after regional teams are selected and registration is completed.

Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams respectively.

15. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

15.1 Competition Format
Rules: Games will be eight ends with a three (3) minute, 4th end break and two 90-second time outs per team. Curling Canada and NLCA Rules of Competition will apply.
If a five or six team competition, the two top teams in each section will be in the playoffs. Semi-final winners play for Gold and Silver, runners-up for Bronze.
If a seven team competition, there will be two sections one of four, one of three, and the two top teams in each section will be in the playoffs. Semi-final winners play for Gold and Silver, runners-up for Bronze.
Ties will be broken with ranking, draw to the button results, and a game if cannot be resolved.
