Volleyball (Male) - Technical Package

Technical Packages for the NLGames are developed by the Provincial Sport Organization governing each respective sport. Questions should be directed to the Technical Chairperson as noted in Section 1 below, or to the SportNL Games Coordinator Patti Thorne by email pthorne@sportnl.ca or phone 709-576-4629.

3. ELIGIBILITY
All team members and staff must be registered members of the NLVA. To represent a particular region, an athlete must meet regulations governing regional eligibility as per NL Games Policy. Regional teams must carry a minimum of 9 athletes to be eligible for all Games competition.

4. AGE CLASSIFICATION
Under 15 Born in 2003 or later.

5. PARTICIPANTS PER REGION

5.1 ATHLETES
Male Team
12 male athletes (minimum team size 9 athletes)

Female Team
12 female athletes (minimum team size 9 athletes)

5.2 STAFF
Male Team
1 male coach. 1 male manager. If coach is female an extra male staff position may be added for athlete supervision.

Female Team
1 female coach. 1 female manager. If coach is male an extra female staff person may be added for athlete supervision.

6. STAFF SELECTION
All coaches must be certified as per NLVA coaching certification requirements.
Coaches must have completed the Volleyball Canada E-Learning Modules, NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation and Making Headway (Generic Sport Module)
(If Extra Staff member is required, they are not required to have taken the E-Learning, however NCCP MED evaluation and Headway modules are strongly recommended.
Coaching Applications will be accepted from qualified coaches in each region as well as a season plan for the program.

7. REGIONAL QUALIFIERS / REPRESENTATIVES
Teams wishing to participate in the Games must meet the following criteria;
Teams must be comprised of athletes attending the same school, or feeder school
Coaches must apply to have teams compete in regional play-downs before Friday November 10 2017.

Coaching credentials
3 Sample practice plans
Any coaches that do not meet the standards will be notified to make the necessary adjustments to the application. Teams will not be permitted if applications fail to meet the minimum training standards upon review by the NLVA committee. Any Team that participates in the regional play-downs MUST register and compete in the 15U NLVA Provincial Championships

9. REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Each regional team must be registered with the Host by February 8, 2018 through an online registration system that will be provided by the Host.

10. GAMES-TIME MEETINGS
One coach or staff representative from each region and each sport is required to attend the following meetings in the Host region at the commencement of the NLGames:

Coach / Manager General Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by SportNL and including brief presentations from the Host Committee – will cover logistical information on transportation, accommodations, food services, entertainment, venues, etc.

Sport Technical Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by the Technical Chair of your sport – will cover sport-specific technical information for your competition.

11. SANCTION
NLVA sanctions this competition. Except where noted in Section 15 “Technical Information”, rules for this competition will be governed by NLVA/Volleyball Canada.

12. SCHEDULE
Volleyball is a FIRST HALF Sport in the 2018 NLGames from March 10-13.

Final schedules will be posted on www.nlgames.ca/schedule in February after regional teams are selected and registration is completed.

14. MEDALS
Medals will be presented to each regional team member of the first, second and third place finishers male and female.

15. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

15.1 Competition Format
Two division single round robin with top two teams at the conclusion of the round robin advancing to place team in the opposite division in a semifinal. The winner of each semi-final will play for gold and the losers of the semi-final match will play for medal round. 1st place in each division will play the 2 bronze. 3rd Place teams will play to determine 5th and 6th. 4th Place teams will play to determine 7th and 8th.

15.2 Substitution Rules
For the 2018 Winter Games, the 12 Limited Substitution rule will be in effect.

15.3 The use of the Libero is NOT permitted

15.4 The NLVA’s fair Play rule is NOT in effect.

All other Volleyball Canada rules pertaining to 15U events are enforced (ie. No hand pass on 1st contact from serve, etc).
