Wrestling - Technical Package
Technical Packages for the NLGames are developed by the Provincial Sport Organization governing each respective sport. Questions should be directed to the Technical Chairperson as noted in Section 1 below, or to the SportNL Games Coordinator Patti Thorne by email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 709-576-4629.
1. TECHNICAL CHAIRPERSON
Wrestlers must be members of clubs registered and in good standing with the Newfoundland and Labrador Amateur Wrestling Association (NLAWA). Athletes who are not full-time registrants in Junior High or High School are not eligible.
4. AGE CLASSIFICATION
12-18 years of age as of March 10, 2018.
5. PARTICIPANTS PER REGION
10 male athletes
7 female athletes
1 Male Coach
1 Manager (if team has more than 6 athletes)
1 Female Coach
1 Manager (if team has more than 6 athletes)
6. STAFF SELECTION
Coach must be at least 19 years of age by January 1, 2018 and have minimum NCCP Competition-Introduction TRAINED status in Wrestling. Manager must meet the same age requirement.
7. REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
All regional qualifiers must be completed before January 30th, 2018.
The male coach of the team will be the coach who has the greatest number of male wrestlers qualify for the tournament. The female coach of the team will be the coach who has the greatest number of female wrestlers qualify for the tournament. The manager will be the coach who has the greatest number of males and females qualify once the female and male coach has been determined. In the case of a tie, CAWA’s tie breaking formulas will be used.

9. REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Each regional team must be registered with the Host by February 8, 2018 through an online registration system that will be provided by the Host.
10. GAMES-TIME MEETINGS
One coach or staff representative from each region and each sport is required to attend the following meetings in the Host region at the commencement of the NLGames:
Coach / Manager General Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by SportNL and including brief presentations from the Host Committee – will cover logistical information on transportation, accommodations, food services, entertainment, venues, etc.
Sport Technical Meeting – date, time and location to be confirmed
Chaired by the Technical Chair of your sport – will cover sport-specific technical information for your competition.
This competition is sanctioned by the Newfoundland and Labrador Amateur Wrestling Association.
Wrestling is a SECOND HALF Sport in the 2018 NLGames from March 14-18.
Final schedules will be posted on www.nlgames.ca/schedule in February after regional teams are selected and registration is completed.

NL Games medals will be awarded to first, second, and third place team.
The NLAWA will provide individual medals.
15. TECHNICAL INFORMATION
All rules applied will be the current rules of the Wrestling Canada Lutte; with exception to the 5-point throw. To ensure the safety of all athletes, the 5-point throw will be declared an illegal move, with the initiating athlete receiving a caution, and the other athlete receiving 1 point for the first offence in a match, and disqualification for a subsequent offence.
15.2 Weight Classes
Male: 48 – 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 76 kg, 83 kg, 91 kg, 105 kg, 105 – 130 kg
Female: 48 kg, 52 kg, 56 kg, 61 kg, 66 kg, 73 kg, 73-95 kg
Each region is allowed only one wrestler per weight category.
15.3 Weigh-in Procedures
The weigh-in will take place the evening before competition. Males will begin at 5PM, and females will begin at 5:30PM. Time allowances will be made for those traveling. All athletes will be given one hour to cut weight after officially stepping on the scales.
15.4 Competition Format
The competition will be a round robin dual meet. All regions of the province will wrestle against each other. A victory is determined by the combined number of classification points (as outlined by WCL) scored by members each team. A dual meet victory for a team is worth three points, a tie is worth one point and a loss is worth no points.
